Awarded $250k ARPA Community Arts Grant

On April 16th, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced the recipients of the $3.6 million Diversity in Arts Grant at the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum, in collaboration with fiscal partner United Way of Central Maryland . These grants, funded by The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), are part of a $6.25 million investment aimed at supporting diverse arts and cultural institutions, first unveiled in September 2023. Mayor Scott underscored the importance of equitable access to resources for all artists and communities, especially minority and historically underrepresented organizations.

This strategic investment seeks to empower and enrich Baltimore City's cultural heritage while aiding the creative community's recovery from the pandemic. The Diversity in Arts Grant funding will enable awardees to sustain and expand their work, providing quality art experiences and activities for Baltimore City residents.

The museum received $250,000 from this grant to support its efforts in opening a new facility spanning an entire block of #EastBaltimore. Our multiphase, $76 million campaign will enable us to develop an even greater institution for the 21st century, in honor of our visionary Co-Founder, Dr. Elmer P. Martin.
